BRIGHT DOG RED RETURNS TO NUBLU

Nublu, 151 Avenue C, New York

Bright Dog Red (BDR), the alt-jazz ensemble that consistently “defies easy categorization” (Downbeat), celebrates 10 years of existence with a live performance at nublu and with the release of Never Would We, October 17, 2025.

The evening will feature BDR’s “all-encompassing approach to modern-day jazz” (Blue in Green Radio, UK). That approach has evolved over the course of a decade, but “remains committed to blending a potpourri of styles” with “gripping narratives of sociopolitical struggle” and “proudly unanchored improvisation” (Downbeat).

The musicians will include drummer and bandleader Joe Pignato, as well as Cody Davies (Sounds), Michael Eaton (Reeds), Tyreek Jackson (Bass), Martín Loyato (Trumpet and Flugelhorn), and the voices of three distinctive poets, BDR’s long-term vocalist, Matt Coonan, as well as American Book Award winner Randall Horton and interdisciplinary artist Christian Black, both of the acclaimed jazz poetry group Heroes Are Gang Leaders.

In addition, the evening will figure Infinite Ethos, a New Jersey based collective showcasing some of its culturally and artistically independent artists associated with the group as well as Zacchae'us Paul, a multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter of the highest caliber performing a kaleidoscope of styles to enrich the soul and nourish the mind.
